Cafes have always been hotbeds of political discussion: they are places where people meet up with their peers to converse. It is said that during the French Revolution, it was in cafes that riots were planned... The history of the coffee trade is also linked to colonial and post-colonial history. Creating a dialogue with the past to understand the present, would start by sitting around a table (round in this case), with others and having a coffee.
I created a table using basketry techniques. The weaving of plant fibers is very widespread in the region of Lake Titicaca, in Bolivia. This is where I wanted to discover the world of basketry. In Bolivia, TOTORA fibers are woven, in France, OSIER is the most widespread local fiber.
The use of biodegradable natural materials, some from recycled waste (coffee grounds) underlines for me the necessary presence of ecological thinking in any political discussion/awareness. The fragility of these materials exposes the uncertainty of ecological commitment in the world.
